Fans of the Mass Effect series have been waiting to hear about the next game in the series ever since developer Bioware wrapped up the original trilogy, and it looks like they're going to be waiting even longer. The game's developer has announced fans will have to wait until 2014 to hear about any new developments with the game.

BioWare Edmonton and Montreal general manager Aaryn Flynn spoke about the upcoming game on Twitter. When asked about when fans could expect information about a new Mass Effect game, Flynn quickly snuffed out any hope of new game info arriving in time for Christmas, only offering that the company will release new details about the game at some point in 2014. 

"More info sometime in 2014 I hope. That's the most specific I can be," wrote Flynn. 

While this is a pretty vague window, the company has been at least been planning the game for some time now. The most likely times for Bioware to formally announce the game will be E3 in June.

Those waiting for the next Mass Effect game got hopeful when Bioware released several screenshots of people working on the game as part of N7 Day. However, these screenshots did not reveal many details about the game; there are still many question marks surrounding the next entry to the Mass Effect series. While many assume that the game will be Mass Effect 4 and continue the story of Commander Shepard's companions, that may not be the case at all. It is possible that an existing character may become the main character of the series and star in a prequel. In addition, the next Mass Effect game may be a spinoff for the series that exists parallel to the adventures that Commander Shepard and the Normandy had through the first three games in the series.

In any case, the next Mass Effect game is highly anticipated, and Bioware is preparing something new for fans to experience whenever it is released. Fans may have to wait months to find out what shape the game is taking, but considering the critical and commercial success that the series has had, along with the Dragon Age series also made by Bioware, the next Mass Effect game will surely be a game to watch out for in the future.
