Upon his return for the Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals, Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving was instrumental in his team's victory against the Atlanta Hawks, securing their spot in the NBA Finals.
Cleveland.com said that the Cavs announced 30 minutes before the game started that Irving was cleared to play for the first time since the opening of the series.
He was surely fired up to play again making him the first pointer for the game, despite suffering from left knee tendinitis. He then made a three-pointer after two possessions, earning five points in barely two minutes.
The Cavs earned a 118-88 victory against the Hawksm with Irving finishing with 16 points, five assists, four rebounds, one steal and a block.
It was observed that there was nothing that changed in how the point guard played the game since he pretty much showcased his trademark shots and movements.
Sporting News reports Irving did not want to let this opportunity to help the team earn that slot at the finals pass.
"It felt amazing just to be out there. I definitely wanted to be part of the celebration, especially a closeout game like that. I just wanted to give my teammates a spark and come in there and make an impact. I tried to do that," Irving said following their victory.
The player also noted that it was a great reward for him, seeing how the fans cheered for the team.
"Obviously, it's not 100 percent but for me it was just going out there and being with my brothers. That's all I wanted was to win this Eastern Conference championship, win it in Cleveland more importantly for our fans," explained the Cavs point guard.
His great performance on the court could be attributed to a change in treatment he had to undergo prior to playing in the court once again, as per CantonRep.
The same report explained that Irving had to continuously apply ice on his knee to make it better.
"The last four days have definitely been vital for my knee. Me going out there was my choice, and going out there, I felt pretty good," he told CantonRep.
The NBA player said the treatment for his injury was changed when he visited Dr. James Andrews in Florida last Friday. The new treatment focused on the left knee alone and did not pay attention to the right foot. This enabled him to improve his left leg strength.
"We kind of took a different approach in terms of what we were doing. My knee felt a lot better than it did in the last three weeks. We got things done," Irving explained.
