Chris Pine could be giving life to Wonder's Woman love interest, Steve Trevor, on the big screen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pine is in talks to play the superheroine's romantic partner for Warner Bros' "Wonder Woman" film starring Gal Gadot. Patty Jenkins is set to direct the DC Comics project after Michelle MacLaren dropped out of the movie due to creative conflicts.

Pine, 34, will also be appearing in the upcoming film "The Finest Hours" alongside Eric Bana and Ben Foster, a separate report from The Hollywood Reporter wrote. The actor is also set to reprise his role in "Star Trek 3."

For those unacquainted with the character, Trevor first appeared in 1941's "All-Star Comics" No. 8, "a U.S. Army officer whose plane was forced to crash-land on Paradise Island, home of the Amazons, he was nursed back to health by Diana, who fell in love with him and followed him back to civilization when he returned to America," the news outlet wrote.

Upon arriving in the U.S., Diana set upon her path preventing crime as Wonder Woman, while also pursuing Trevor using her secret identity as the office secretary Diana Prince, The Hollywood Reported added. Trevor's character has been rewritten in the comic series a few times. He died in 1968 and in 1978, with a continuity reboot removing Trevor's involvement with the superhero in 1986.

In 2011's "The New 52" relaunch, DC Entertainment once again rebooted Trevor's role in Wonder Woman's life. This time, he was portrayed as the Amazon's former boyfriend who was having difficulties moving on from Wonder Woman even though the superhero already got past their previous relationship.

Aside from the comic books, Trevor has also appeared in 1970's "Wonder Woman" television series starring Lynda Carter. The upcoming film will mark the character's first major appearance on the big screen, The Hollywood Reporter added.

Jason Fuchs penned the movie's screenplay, IGN reported. Production is expected to kick off later this year in time for a June 23, 2017 release in theaters. There aren't a lot of details about how the title character will play out in the upcoming film, but "Wonder Woman" producer Charles Roven confirmed that she is the daughter of Zeus, making her a demi-god.

As for why MacLaren exited the project, Birth.Movies.Death. claimed that the director disagreed with Warner Bros. on some things, specifically on what time period the movie will take place in and the inclusion of a tiger as Diana/Wonder Woman's pet/sidekick.

Prior to her solo film, Gadot's Wonder Woman will appear on Zack Snyder's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, Variety noted. The film has a March 2016 release date.
