The PC has long been the platform of choice for many hardcore gamers; its highly customizable qualities have allowed gamers to experience next-gen level gaming long before the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were launched in November. If you're looking for the perfect PC game to give during the holidays, here are the top five PC games available during the 2013 holiday shopping season.

5. Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition - This is a re-release of a classic RPG that many consider to be one of the best of all time, so any fan of the genre would be glad to receive this game as a gift. While there is a debate amongst critics over just how "enhanced" the Enhanced Edition of the game is, the core of the game remains unchanged and just as fun to play as it was when Baldur's Gate II was originally released.

4. Battlefield 4 - The PC edition of this game suffers from several glitches and bug problems just like the console edition of the game, but the PC version of Battlefield 4 is still worthy of a player's time. The game's multiplayer is just as chaotic as ever, and players can enjoy some serious competition from old-school Battlefield fans playing on the PC.

3. Football Manager 2014 - This game allows serious soccer fans to take the role not of a player, but as the manager of a club trying to compete on the world stage. This series has really upped the ante with their latest version of the game, and manages to capture the real pitfalls of the job while making the sim fun and interesting at the same time.

2. The Stanley Parable - Based on a Half-Life 2 mod, this game pushes the boundaries of video games and feels like an interactive piece of art. The game is a one-player exploration game, but beyond that it is hard to describe what the game is like. Any mature PC gamer out there would appreciate the chance to dive into the game and see what lies in The Stanley Parable.

1. Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag - Ubisoft claims to have worked hard at making their PC games as high-end as possible to prepare for developing on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and that work shows in Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. Anybody with a high-end PC should grab the game and watch as the Caribbean comes to life onscreen. Throw in a expansive game with many different side quests to complete and a solid multiplayer mode and the game is perhaps the best PC game available during the holiday season.
