For "Tomorrowland" cinematographer Claudio Miranda, taking inspiration from Disney's fascination on the future and technology was a huge factor in making the film.

Speaking to Fox News Latino, the Academy Award winner discussed how he worked on "Tomorrowland," which is currently showing in theaters and is starring George Clooney and Britt Robertson.

"It doesn't focus on a specific ride, but more on the idea of the future and creating," Miranda told Fox News Latino. "Inventing new things - that was Walt Disney's idea and focus for the future."

The film features inventor Frank Walker (Clooney) and scientifically curious and optimist Casey Newton (Robertson) as they embark on a quest to discover the secrets of "Tomorrowland," an ultra-modern separate reality which exists in another dimension. The enigmatic place contains highly advanced technology designed and invented by dreamers to create a better future.

"'Tomorrowland' is very modern, almost like a Walt Disney [vision of the] future - like in 'It's a Small World' - and it's juxtaposed with the present, which is very cold and not special," Miranda explained to Fox News Latino. "It's an optimistic past thinking about the future. But there are also some really oppressive parts of the future."

Miranda, 51, said that director Brad Bird's storytelling was what attracted him to the project in the first place. That, and the combination of "a good script, the storyline, and the possibility of visuals and thinking outside the box" made him agree to do "Tomorrowland," the news outlet wrote. The cinematographer also worked on the big screen adaptation of "Life of Pi" in 2012 and in 2013's "Oblivion."

Miranda also said that the message of "Tomorrowland" "isn't about a glittering, perfect future or about the disillusionment of the present, but more about feeling nostalgia for a future that has not come about, but could," Fox News Latino added. Basically, the movie centers on hope.

Even though "Tomorrowland" was not based on the main park attractions of Disneyland, Bird and producer Damon Lindelof revealed that the film still has certain nods and homages to the highly popular theme park and its innovator, Walt Disney.

"We weren't so much inspired by the land as much as the idea of the land," Bird said in an interview with IGN. He also wrote the movie's screenplay with Lindelof.

Bird added, "Walt Disney created Tomorrowland as the only part of the park that was continually on the edge of being out of date, because the future was always changing. But instead of viewing that as a burden, he viewed it as something exciting and fun."

"Tomorrowland" also stars Hugh Laurie, Judy Greer, and Raffey Cassidy. Watch the trailer below.
