Super Smash Bros 4 for the Wii U and 3DS is the most anticipated Nintendo game coming sometime in 2014. Nintendo has release updates on the game through the game's official website, and we bring you some of the highlights from those updates.
One of the biggest additions to the game is Skull Kid from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. The character will not be a playable character for the game, but instead will be an assist trophy for the game. Game director Masahiro Sakurai also showed off the character's image through the Miiverse, and this to say about the character's addition to Super Smash Bros 4:
"Pic of the day. Here's a new Assist Trophy--the Skull Kid! I repeat, it's an Assist Trophy, not a new fighter. The characters announced on the website are the fighters!"
In addition to this new assist trophy, Sakurai revealed the special attack for The Villager from Animal Crossing, who is a playable character for the game. The Villager's special attack involves the use of Lloid to punish foes with. As Sakurai explains when the screenshot was released:
"The Villager's special attack, the Lloid Rocket, is a projectile weapon like no other--you can either launch it or ride on it. When you fire it off, keep pressing the button to hop aboard--you can even control its speed. It's more powerful when you're riding it."
Another screenshot for the 3DS version of the game is rather epic, to say the least. The screenshot shows the Wii Fit Trainer facing off against the huge Dark Emperor from StreetPass Mii Plaza minigame Find Mii II. In addition, the stage on which the characters are on appears to be a new stage, either based on the find Mii Stage, or perhaps a StreetPass Mii Plaza stage for the 3DS version of the game.
Finally, a more lighthearted screenshot showed the Pilotwings stage with the Wii Fit Trainer, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Capcom's Mega Man all fighting it out. Instead of fighting each other, they appear to be fighting over the Wii Fit football, which is a weapon available in the game. It will be interesting to see how the more dynamic maps found in the new Super Smash Bros games affect more traditional items such as the soccer ball found in the series.
Look out for more news about Super Smash Bros 4 as Nintendo continues to update fans on the game in the coming months.
