Apple's upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference is no secret to its legion of followers. This year, for those who may not know, the San Francisco event is scheduled to take place between June 8 and June 12.
The conference will bring more than 100 technical sessions, over 1,000 Apple engineers, hands-on labs and the highly-anticipated Apple Design Awards. The future of iOS and OS X are expected to be discussed as well.
But the WWDC may not just be a software-centered event. According to the Master Herald, latest reports suggest that the sixth-generation iPod touch will rise to the occasion as well.
However, the outlet cited previous reports, which indicated a later unveiling marked in September. This sets the new iPod touch's launch beside the expected arrival of Apple's new iPhones.
As of press time, Apple has not confirmed whether the next iPhone shall be an iPhone 6s or an iPhone 7. Rumors naming both devices are all over the web, but until the Cupertino giant speaks, these details are best taken with healthy grains of salt.
In April, AppleInsider has spoken with an unnamed source, who revealed that the iPod touch will see an update "later this year." The outlet is convinced that 2015 could be an opportune time for a refresh, following Apple's $3 billion-acquisition of Beats last year.
The sixth-generation iPod touch is believed to marry its predecessors' highlighted features and those of latest iPhones, the Master Herald noted. That being said, anyone can easily think of Retina display, Touch ID and Apple Pay, among other things.
Interestingly, the new iPod touch is expected to ship in 4.7- and 5.5-inch models, Crossmap wrote. Users would know that these measurements are similar to that of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, respectively.
Under the hood, the device is purported to pack an A9 processor, coupled by 1 GB of RAM and expandable memory (via micro SD) of up to 128 GB, the Venture Capital Post cited.
With regards to photography specs, the media player is touted to have an 8 MP rear camera, while its front snapper allegedly captures at 1.5 MP, Crossmap said. The source listed expected color options such as yellow, red, blue, green, silver, pink, space gray and gold.
Alongside water-resistance and Siri, the new iPod touch is believed to ship with iOS 9 out of the box, the Master Herald noted.
In terms of pricing, it is said that the new device will sell from $250 to $300.
