UFC female bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is making noise around the world once more, this time, not because of her fast victories against her opponents, but because she has landed on the cover of the May 13 Sports Illustrated issue, where she was also named the World's Most Dominant Athlete.
Rousey, according to Fox Sports, was featured in a story written by L. Jon Wertheim which discussed why she is considered the most dominant athlete among others involved in other types of sports.
She is reportedly the second MMA fighter to appear in the magazine's cover after former UFC lightweight Roger Huerta, who graced it in 2007. Yahoo Sports explained that Huerta's appearance on the cover was "an impromptu action shot" accompanied by the story about the MMA's rise. Rousey's was more about how she dominated the sport with her skill, talent and victories.
MMA Fighting reported that the MMA star is the first judoka to appear on the SI cover. The site wrote, "nobody from the jiu-jitsu world has ever made a cover, and the lone amateur wrestler, Danny Hodge, did so back in 1957." It added that it is rare for the magazine to feature combat sports athletes on the front page, with the exception of well-known boxing figures, of course.
The female fighter rose to success with her record-breaking performances during her fights and also her appearance in some blockbuster Hollywood films.
"She has had a year for the record books. After a 16-second annihilation of Alexis Davis last July, she upped the ante with a 14-second whirlwind finish via her signature arm-bar over Cat Zingano at UFC 184 in February," added Yahoo Sports in its report.
For the SI cover story, Rousey reportedly talked about her fight with Zingano. "Every single millisecond of that fight was something that has never been done before in MMA," she was quoted as saying.
Aside from the magazine cover, Fox Sports said Rousey is also busy with the release of her autobiography titled "My Fight, Your Fight" which is expected to be available in stores on Tuesday, May 12.
On August 1, she is set to face Bethe Correia in a title bout at UFC 190 where she is again expected to prove her "dominance." If she will be able to demolish Correia like she did with her previous opponents, Yahoo Sports said that the adjective "dominant" will not be enough to describe her.
Rousey just proves how successful she is with her efforts in the UFC and she's able to juggle her acting career when she is not training or preparing for her fights. She is set to appear in the "Entourage" movie which will be shown in cinemas starting June 3.
