"La Banda" hasn't aired yet, but Univision already greenlit "La Banda 2," a talent show that will look for the ultimate Latin girl super group in the U.S and Puerto Rico.

According to Billboard, the news was announced during Univision's Upfronts presentation in New York on May 12. "La Banda," a music competition show developed by Simon Cowell's SYCO Entertainment and Haim Saban's Saban Brands, is set to search for the next Latino boy group.

"Music plays a central role in the lives of Hispanics and we are pleased to continue to bring new musical projects to our audience via this exciting new platform," said Alberto Ciurana, president of Univision Communication's Programming and Content, as quoted by The Wrap. "We're thrilled to collaborate once again with Simon Cowell's SYCO Entertainment as part of our commitment to entertain and empower Hispanic Americans through the programming they crave."

Former U.S. president Bill Clinton was present in Univision's Upfronts to discuss the importance of Hispanic influence in the country, Billboard noted. Martin also performed in the event.

"La Banda" is co-produced by FremantleMedia Latin America, with Ricky Martin (also a producer of the project), Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz, and Italian star Laura Pausini serving as judges, Billboard wrote. The program already started conducting auditions and will begin airing on the network in September.

"La Banda 2" will follow the steps of its predecessor and is set to air in 2016 in the same Sunday night timeslot, the news outlet added. The show will carry out auditions in various cities, with a special focus on searching for a Latin girl group. Cowell, Kelly Belldegrun, and Nigel Hall will executive produce the project for SYCO Entertainment, with Cisco Suarez executive producing for Univision.

"I am absolutely delighted to be announcing Season 2 of 'La Banda'," said Cowell, as reported by The Wrap. "The enthusiasm for this format is already very exciting and most importantly we are seeing some incredibly promising talent. Univision and Saban Brands are brilliant, music-focused, passionate partners and we are all looking forward to next year's search for a Latina girl group."

When asked about what inspired him to create "La Banda," Cowell said that he feels it's time to introduce the audience to more Latin artists which are "good," "talented," and "charismatic." the TV personality also added that he thinks it's the right time to create a show focusing on the Hispanic community.

"I feel that this whole Latin audience is getting bigger and bigger. You got Latin artists crossing over to mainstream America. I like the idea of a group made up of five Spanish speaking artists. As a record label, we're always searching for new artists," Cowell told Perez Hilton in an interview.
