Fallout 4 has received renewed interest from gamers with its potential teaser site being recently updated and the timer on the website drawing closer to the expected end date of Dec. 11. While many now hope that Bethesda and parent company ZeniMax will officially announce Fallout 4, it has been made clear that the game will not be appearing in any form at the VGX show coming up soon.

Bethesda's vice president of public relations and marketing Pete Hines confirmed the news on Twitter. He quickly shot down the possibility of Fallout 4 and Bethesda being at VGX:

"No, folks. I am not going to VGX. Bethesda is not showing/talking about anything at VGX. Just some PR meetings in LA. Take deep breaths."

While this may disappoint fans of the series that have been waiting for years for news about Fallout 4, it does not shut down the possibility Bethesda is working on the game. After all, VGX is on Dec. 7, before the countdown clock is set to run out. It would not make sense to announce the game so soon before the mysterious website reveals its secrets—if it is indeed a Fallout 4 teaser website and not a hoax.

VGX is the rebranded Spike Video Game Awards, and is one of the most high-profile video game award ceremonies in the world. Many developers and publishers will be using the awards show as a platform to announce new games and reveal new footage for upcoming games. For example, new footage from the PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 game Titanfall will be revealed at the show, and Square Enix will have details about the newest Tomb Raider game coming to next-gen consoles. Additional games that will be shown at the event include The Crew and The Division from Ubisoft.

Even if all the Fallout 4 news that has been circling this week turns out to be misinformation based on a hoax, Bethesda at least needs to be contemplating where to take the series and how to bring the franchise to next-gen consoles. After all, Fallout 3 set the bar for open-world games on the previous generation of consoles, and fans are eager to see what Bethesda can cook up on the newest consoles such as the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
