The aftershock of summer’s most anticipated album has finally withered away. Other major releases such as Drake’s “Nothing Was the Same” have cast a giant shadow over Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memories,” leaving the synth pop duo’s comeback album nothing more than an afterthought. Fans were so hungry for new Daft Punk tunes that they over indulged. In every store, passing car, and bar, any number of Daft Punk songs could be heard blaring through the speakers. It was overkill. By the summer’s end, the songs were so embedded in our brains that the album lost its luster. The Daft Punk storm had passed, and fans were already searching for more. A tour, unreleased tracks, anything. But nothing came of it. The summer debris settled, the leaves left their trees, and everyone returned to their everyday lives. But now a glimmer of hope streaks across the impending winter skies, providing fans with one more slice of Daft Punk before “Random Access Memories” fades away to the deep recess of our minds.
Not only did they debut a sneak peek teaser for their new “Instant Crush” video with The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas, but Mixmag has just unveiled a new mini documentary titled “Daft Punk - Behind the Helmets.” The episode offers a brief history behind the duo’s coveted helmets, finally, which have become a staple in the Daft Punk brand.
The mini documentary reveals the true secrets behind the masks, but unfortunately includes very little about the men behind them. Regardless, it’s still jam packed with fun, interesting facts. For example, did you know that the same man who invented the Jumbotron helped design Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo’s helmet? To learn more about their helmets (who wouldn’t), check it out for yourself below.
