It wasn't too long ago that we began hearing about a massive camera patch for the Google Nexus 5, which has been the subject of some user complaints regarding its photography skills, and it looks like the improvements will arrive in the form of Android 4.4.1 KitKat over the next few days.

Speaking to The Verge in an article published Thursday, Google's Director of Engineering for Android David Burke explained that the Android team has been hard at work improving the Nexus 5's camera, especially its autofocus and overall speed.

"There's a tendency to say, 'oh, we have this cool thing that stabilizes, so lets make the shutter time longer, reduce the gain even longer, and get better shots," said Burke. Downside is, however, that longer shutter times mean taking pictures of fast moving objects can be a nightmare.

"You fix the motion blur and make everything faster," Burke explained.

The Verge, which has had a chance to test out the new improvements, states that camera quality is vastly improved by the Android 4.4.1 update.

"With Android 4.4.1 on board, however, the Nexus 5's camera stops being a dealbreaker — it's not the best smartphone camera, but it's a camera you can use confidently and expectantly knowing that it will almost always deliver," writes The Verge.

No exact release date for the update was given, although it should begin rolling out soon. The firmware looks to be complete, and there shouldn't be too many delays before Google pushes it out. Expect it to roll out next week at the latest.
