Battlefield 4 has faced some serious issues since its launch; the game has had several glitches appear on the many different platforms. This was further complicated by the release of the China Rising DLC, which has added a new wave of bugs that need to be addressed by publisher EA Games and Developer DICE.
Now, an EA spokesman has revealed that DICE is focusing solely on fixing the problems for Battlefield 4, and is putting other projects such as Star Wars Battlefront and Mirror's Edge 2 on hold for now.
"[DICE is] not moving onto future projects or expansions until we sort out all the issues with Battlefield 4...We know we still have a ways to go with fixing the game - it is absolutely our #1 priority. The team at DICE is working non-stop to update the game," the EA spokesman told IGN.
When asked specifically how this will affect the development of games such as Star Wars Battlefront, the spokesman was very cryptic and vague about the status of those other projects:
"We haven't announced a ship date for Battlefront but right now the team is focused on fixing Battlefield 4."
This means that EA feels comfortable potentially delaying the release of the new Star Wars Battlefront game as the company does not yet have a solid release date planned, so they aren't risking angering fans by pushing back the development cycle for the game.
Battlefield 4 has had many different patches added to the game across all platforms in the hopes that the game is able to work as it should be. Problems such as server limitations and players being ejected from multiplayer matches are common occurrences, and then the China Rising DLC introduced new problems such as the content refusing to download or players not being able to access the content altogether. EA claims that the issues found in the China Rising DLC appeared late in the development of the content, and the company decided to release the content on time to not disappoint fans.
It will be interesting to see if EA and DICE are able to smooth out Battlefield 4. With the full resources of DICE behind the game, hopefully the issues can once and for all be put to rest and the game.
