Female comedian Tamale Sepp, a.k.a. Tamale Rocks, chanced upon a two-way mirror during her trip to the bathroom of a restaurant bar and lounge along W Ogden Avenue, and she thinks there's nothing funny about it.
"When I went to use the restroom last night in Berwyn, IL, I noticed a full-length mirror opposite of the toilet. Curious, I explored and discovered that it was two-way mirror, the door behind it cut away to allow an unobstructed view of the toilet ...and anyone who may be using it," Tamale notes on the caption of the video she posted on her YouTube channel.
Tamale's recording which lasts a minute and 23 seconds reveals that a door within the comfort room leads to another stall that looks like some sort of a storage room.
The bar owner of Cigars and Stripes, Ronnie Lottz, is now under investigation regarding the incident, as reported by Fox News.
"We're doing everything we can to make sure no one's personal privacy has been violated," James Ritz, Chief of Police, told Fox News. So far, the investigation has found no indication of criminal activity says Ritz.
But based on his interviews, it seems the owner is ready to defend the existence of the mirror.
He referred to his establishment as a giant funhouse and they are making use of the mirror during Halloween to scare people, according to Fox News.
Lottz, in fact, was hell bent on keeping the mirror, saying that it has been there for the longest time, and it's there to stay. "I will burn this [expletive] place to the ground before I get rid of that mirror. Do you know how much joy that mirror has brought to us?" he told Jezebel via a phone interview.
Reading through the comments section of the video, one can see how much divisiveness it has created, with some expressing their concern over what they perceive is an invasion of privacy, while others have sympathized with the bar owner, believing that nothing's wrong with the said "bathroom feature."
There are those who say that the owner or management should have known better and posted a notice to give guests a heads-up. Questions were also raised as to why this 2-way mirror can only be found in the lady's room.
Others defended the owner, saying that the place was well-known among its patrons who are also well aware of the Halloween purposes of the second door. The fact that the second door inside the comfort room isn't locked, and anyone can check what's on the other side, makes it sound innocuous for them.
So, what's your take on the matter? Let us know with your comments.
