The Motorola Moto X 2nd Generation just had a massive price cut in India recently, slashing about (Rs) 3000 Indian rupees or $48 from the 16GB variant's original Rs 26999 ($427.23) price tag. This price adjustment is believed by many as a sign that its successor, the Moto X 2015 3rd Generation, is already coming.
Mobiletor said the priced reduction is already the second carried out for the phone model in India. It added that the reason behind the price drop could be the "growing number of low-cost smartphones with higher performance hardware."
"The Motorola Moto X second gen isn't the most powerful option from Motorola, but it does offer a great roster of hardware for its retail tag which sadly, isn't as competitive as that of the OnePlus One and the Xiaomi Mi 4 that pack similar components," added Mobiletor.
According to NDTV Gadgets, the Moto X 2nd Gen is packed with a 5.2-inch (1080x1920 pixel) OLED display with a pixel density of 423ppi, a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (MSM8974-AC) processor with 2GB of RAM. It also comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front facing shooter.
"Connectivity options on the Moto X (Gen 2) include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.0LE, Micro-USB, and 3.5mm audio jack. It measures 140.8x72.4x9.97mm, and weighs 144 grams. It is powered by a 2300mAh battery," added NDTV.
With the recent price slash of the device, more people are expected to buy the phone which is indeed packed with great features. With this good news also comes the indication that the Moto X 2015 3rd Generation will soon be coming to the market.
An earlier VC Post report said that the release of the device could be in August or September this year basing it on the annual release of the Moto X. The Moto X 1st Gen and the 2nd Gen were released in August 2013 and September 2014, respectively.
In a similar report, TechnoBuffalo discussed that the device could use the latest Snapdragon 820 chipset which will "make it possible to recognize different facial expressions using the phone's camera and could also improve security by taking other contextual data into consideration, again by using the sensors in your device."
Though there have been few news items discussing the upcoming Moto X release, VC Post claimed that the phone will surely be good enough and can compete with the upcoming rumored devices such as the Apple iPhone 6S, the LG G4, and the Sony Xperia Z4.
Motorola has not yet released a tentative price for the Moto X 2015 3rd Generation but if the introductory price tag of the Moto X 2014 will be considered, then the 16GB variant will cost around $425 while the 32GB will be around $475 as per Tech Radar.
