The mutant with indigo skin is hard to find in the shadows, and for X-Men's nightcrawler, that's a great advantage. It may also be the reason why, according to Brisbane Times, "X-Men" director Bryan Singer tweeted, then immediately deleted an image of actor Kodi Smit-McPhee.

Singer teased, "Catch him before he's gone."

Well, some were able to catch it. Smit-McPhee looked every bit like the iconic character, and as the site noted, his full-on makeup and costume provide the first glimpse into the upcoming film, which shall commence shooting this week.

The image came with a short video clip, and appeared on both Singer's and Smit-McPhee's Twitter feeds. Both also almost had them immediately deleted.

The actor, who is starting to make a name for himself in Hollywood, appeared in last year's "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and playing a role as iconic as Nightcrawler (real name Kurt Wagner) will only elevate his celebrity status.

Smit-McPhee said about his character on the Wall Street Journal, "They're keeping his look very traditional, and even things that are happening within the story are very traditional. I believe his look is mustered from a combination of Azazel and Mystique, the blue and the demonish figure. I think it's really cool they have that image but then the heart, soul and brain behind that image is something so different to what he looks like."

He also shared that he can somehow relate to Kurt's Nightcrawler, telling the website, "Nightcrawler has a love for faith and god and all he really does is, through his pain and suffering, give love to everyone else. There's some really raw, true elements to me and my life."

Slash Film noted that the 18-year-old actor is playing a younger version of the character previously brought to life by Alan Cumming. However, he didn't personally speak with Cumming about the role, as noted by WSJ. He did share, however, that "I have seen his face so much just from doing research - I like to see everyone's own take on the character, even within the comic books and TV shows," Smit-McPhee said. "He has so much working for him as a character."

Like Smit-McPhee, who is playing a younger version of a mutant, so will "Game of Thrones" actress Sophie Turner in her role as Jean Grey, and Tye Sheridan as the new Cyclops.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will see the return of James McAvoy as Professor X, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, and Lucas Till as Havok.
