Neil DeGrasse Tyson is known as a celebrity astrophysicist, and it seems that he's the one to explain the plot behind the "Batman v Superman" conflict, which is good news, considering that we don't know anything beyond the trailer, the biggest question still being: Why are they fighting each other in the first place?

So why would an astrophysicist know so much about the plot? For one thing, Tyson is the same person who provided the voiceover in the clip, and according to Screen Crush, there are rumors that he will have a part in the film as himself.

The celebrity scientist appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart recently and when asked about the biggest question in the superhero flick, he said it basically comes down to the fact that Superman does not have to answer to anyone. "Nobody we have any insight into. He just behaves in any way he wants. And so at the end of the day, what might matter is the public reception of the superhero's conduct. And if Batman executes our wishes in the city, and Superman does whatever the hell he wants: that's a conflict," Tyson explained.

This was the last thing on anyone's mind, apparently, as Cinema Blend noted that when Stewart weighed in, he, like most fans thought the same thing: "Batman is just a guy with a nice belt," and "Superman is invincible, he is faster than a speeding bullet and he can fly."

Putting into perspective that Superman does not have to answer to anyone while Batman basically answers to the City of Gotham, it makes sense, as Tyson put it, that there lies the problem as people aren't going to be very happy with the idea of an alien from another planet not having to "report to anyone that we know."

Thus explains the chants of "go home" directed at the Man of Steel, as well as a spray-painted words "false god" across his statue, the International Business Times noted. Screen Crush explained that while Batman is a vigilante, he reports to Commissioner Gordon making him a "government-sponsored vigilante," whereas Superman just does things depending on what he thinks is important.

Tyson's insights do not say much about the plot synopsis, but until that arrives, his explanation is the closest we could get to one, and it makes a lot of sense as to why two heroes would go head to head.

What do you think of the insights we got from the astrophysicist? Do you think he's right about the reason The Dark Knight and the Man of Steel is in conflict, or is there an underlying reason for their inability to work together at this point?
