Jon Stewart has just recently revealed that his last episode of "The Daily Show" will be on the 6th of August this year.
And to the dismay of his many followers, the funnyman did not mean it tongue-in-cheek.
"I will be wearing a suit, I will more than likely be showered," so goes the 16-year host of the satirical news show. "I'm sorry, I'll be wearing overalls and I won't shower," he quipped.
Stewart offered his thoughts on why he's leaving the Emmy and Peabody award-winning show in his conversation with Hadley Freeman of The Guardian.
"It's not like I thought the show wasn't working any more, or that I didn't know how to do it. It was more, 'Yup, it's working. But I'm not getting the same satisfaction," Stewart said, slapping his hands on his desk.
"These things are cyclical. You have moments of dissatisfaction, and then you come out of it and it's OK. But the cycles become longer and maybe more entrenched, and that's when you realise, 'OK, I'm on the back side of it now.'"
The ABC News also reports about the host's desire to see and be around more with his family. Stewart has two children, Nathan, 10, and Maggie, 9, from his marriage of more than ten years.
"It would be nice to be home when my little elves get home from school, occasionally," he said.
According to an article by The Rolling Stone, he also grew tired and weary of constantly having to watch the "relentless" 24-hour news networks. He said that it has been depressing for him streaming these channels all day for his material. He even compared himself to a turd miner who needs to put on his helmet and go inside a turd mine over and over again.
Late last month, Comedy Central officially confirmed that Trevor Noah would take over the reins of "The Daily Show" in terms of hosting duties, as told by the NY Times. A more youthful comic talent expected to inject fresh insights to the show. The Johannesburg, South African native appeared three times on "The Daily Show" before getting the unexpected promotion.
Amid concerns over his lack of experience and exposure on American television, Noah got the endorsement and a pat on the back from no less than his esteemed predecessor.
"I'm thrilled for the show and for Trevor," Jon Stewart said in a statement via The Times. "He's a tremendous comic and talent that we've loved working with."
In their 2014 rankings of the world's most powerful celebrities, Forbes listed the 52-year-old writer, producer, and actor at the 60th place. He has earned $16 million last year mostly from his TV gigs. Celebrity Net Worth, on one hand, valued him at $80 million in net worth.
