A number of Android-supported devices are now able to get a taste of the software's 5.1 update, thanks to the availability of custom firmwares.

Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE

To start with, the Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE (GT-I9505), the Korean tech giant's flagship of 2013, has received the CM12.1 series custom ROM from CyanogenMod. Based on the latest AOSP (Android Open Source Project) 5.1 Lollipop, the build is a nightly version, International Business Times reported.

The firmware packs a number of interesting fixes and features, including a Boxer-powered email app that comes with multiple account support. In addition, it brings customization options in sound notifications and different LED colors. The build may be downloaded here.

Motorola Moto G (2013)

The CM12.1 series custom ROM has also arrived for Motorola's 2013 mid-range smartphone, the Moto G (Peregrine) LTE model. In another article, IBT reminded that the build may only be installed for Peregrine 4G retail models XT1039, XT1040 and XT1045.

As regular flashers would know, installing builds on inappropriate models could get innocent handsets bricked. Download the firmware here.

HTC One M7

Earlier this month, an unofficial CM12.1 custom ROM has been out for the first-generation HTC One M7, AndroidXDA noted.

According to the outlet, the build was released by AndroidGeek974, senior XDA member. For a weight of 256 MB, the custom ROM may be downloaded here.

The HTC One M7 may also be upgraded to Android 5.1 through TeamUB ROM. Some of its features were listed by IBT in another note, including: OTA updates, battery percentage in the status bar, network traffic indicator, custom notification lights, heads up notifications, Recent Panel settings, battery improvements and lockscreen shortcuts, among others.

Nexus Player

The nightly CM 12.1 (based on Android 5.1) is now available for the Nexus Player, Android Police reported. As told by the outlet, the Nexus Player is the only consumer device capable of supporting Android TV.

Android Police warns that the build may come with "few teething troubles," considering its nightly nature, and that Android TV is a new platform for the ROM team. Get the build here.

OTA Updates

Meanwhile, in a recent article, Android Geeks wrote that Android 5.1.1 is on its way to the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. The outlet said, "It's safe to assume that other supported devices will start receiving it in over the next few weeks."

Flashing custom firmwares require successful completion of very technical procedures that are best exercised with caution.
