While "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" is undoubtedly a big hit in the worldwide box office, Universal Studio's "Furious 7" is unfaltering in its sales, as it topped the Box Office in the fourth week running and adding another $18 million in its domestic sales.
As per Indie Wire, the worldwide sales for the massively popular franchise already summed up to $1.321 billion, overtaking Disney's 2013 hit animation, "Frozen" as the fifth highest-grossing film of all time.
According to the site, that number should easily surpass 2009's "Avengers" for the number 3 spot. Its sequel opened in 44 territories to a tune of $201.2 million in global sales.
However, considering that "Age of Ultron" is simply one of the most talked about films these days, there is a possibility that "Furious 7" could be knocked out of the top spot come May 1, when the superhero franchise takes over the screen. According to Time Magazine, the film is expected to earn over $200 million in its opening weekend alone.
According to USA Today, "Furious 7" is the first film to achieve a 4-week streak since "The Hunger Games" in 2012, and only 29 films since 1985 ever managed to reach this achievement. That being said, it seems that "Furious 7" is already making waves, as it is currently among the biggest films of 2015.
Rentrak media analyst Paul Dergarabedian said (via USA Today) about the massive hit, "It's a juggernaut. There aren't enough adjectives in the vocabulary to properly assess the performance of this film."
Rounding off the top films of the weekend are "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2" starring Kevin James, which finished second for the second week in a row with $15.3 million, and "Age of Adaline" ($13.4 million), at third spot, starring Blake Lively as the woman who stopped aging for over 80 years. In fourth and fifth place are "Home" and "Unfriended", with $8.3M and $6.2M in revenues, respectively, USA Today noted, citing data from Rentrak.
Explaining Adaline's success, Dergarabedian said, "People do not live on just blockbusters alone. There is always room for movies aimed at that adult audience, even in the fever and fervor of the impending summer movie season."
"Furious 7" is a big hit, however, do you think that "Avengers: Age of Ultron" can get it right and claim the top spot this weekend, or will "Furious 7" continue on with its winning streak?
