It has been almost three years since Apple released the iPod Touch 5th generation and there are now rumors that the 6th generation of the device will be launched in June, along with the coming of the iOS 9.
Mac Rumors said that the refreshed device will most likely have a similar design as the current model, but noted that there could be upgrades in the camera and processor.
"Apple has not refreshed the iPod touch since October 2012, when the portable media player was updated with an ultra-thin and colorful design, A5 processor and Lightning connector," added Mac Rumors, pointing out that the decline in iPod sales could be the reason for the delay in the release.
Now there is a possibility that the iPod Touch 6th generation will be launched in June, since the iOS 9 is also expected to be available on that month, in time for Apple's WWDC Conference.
Expert Reviews said that the new update in the Apple system is expected to be "less exciting" and will have fewer features.
"Apple will use the next major release of its mobile operating system to fix bugs and improve stability, rather than unleash a raft of new features," states Expert Reviews.
It noted that by doing a low-key release which will focus on performance issues and bugs, the company will be able to fix concerns that can really damage the reputation of the software and the company as well.
Expected to run on iOS 9, the upcoming iPod Touch 6th Generation will reportedly include a 64-bit A7 processor, increased storage space, and improved iSight and FaceTime cameras, as per Mac Rumors.
"Additionally, it would make sense for the new iPod touch to support Apple Pay, which would require locked down NFC capabilities and a Touch ID fingerprint scanner. Beats-related features could also be in store following Apple's $3 billion acquisition of the company in May 2014," Mac Rumors added.
According to a similar Christian Post report, the device can also come in pink, silver, blue, yellow, space grey, orange, green, and red. As for the display, the upcoming iPod Touch is rumored to have a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels with pixel density count of 440ppi, an 8-MP iSight camera and 1.5-MP front-facing cam.
For fans eager to really buy the device during its rumored release, Christian Post said it may have the same price tag as the 5th generation which was pegged at $299 for the 32GB model and $399 for the 64GB model.
Despite the lack of confirmation from Apple on the alleged update on the iPod Touch series, iPod fans are already very excited for the next-gen device.
