Oscar-nominated filmmaker and a prominent fan of the New York Knicks, Spike Lee, will reportedly be part of the career mode of the upcoming "NBA 2K16" game.
The leaked materials courtesy of Polygon and source information obtained by Yahoo Sports revealed three covers for the game starring NBA stars Stephen Curry, James Harden and Kevin Durant, and that they will star in "the new Spike Lee Joint."
The filmmaker is also reportedly credited on the cover of the game like Jay-Z in 2013 when he became the celebrity executive producer of the game installment for the year.
According to Yahoo Sports, Polygon was able to confirm the "authenticity" of the leaked covers through a reliable source with knowledge on the matter.
It was also noted that Lee's rumored participation in the upcoming release has spread online for the past month.
"In mid-March, the New York Post mentioned he was 'in San Francisco working on an NBA video-game project,' and had attended a Knicks shootaround at the University of San Francisco. 2K Games and Visual Concepts, its in-house sports studio, is located in Novato, a suburb north of the city," added Yahoo Sports.
Sporting News also said that if it is indeed true that Lee is part of the development of the game, players can expect "stellar storytelling" because of the filmmaker's artistry and connection to the NBA.
In a similar Arcade Sushi report, it was noted that Lee is not anymore a stranger to basketball as he is a prominent Knicks fan and is also the writer and director of the 1998 film "He Got Game" starring Ray Allen.
Yahoo Sports added that it can be possible that there will be separate covers for the game, just like in 2011 with Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird; and in 2013 with Blake Griffin, Derrick Rose and Durant. If Durant will really be featured in the cover again, it will be his third appearance since he also graced the "NBA 2K15" cover.
With the tagline "Be The Story," the franchise installment is expected to be released in PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC in October since Arcade Sushi noted that the series annually launches on the first Tuesday of the said month.
Fans are really excited about what is in store for them with this upcoming game as CrossMap said players are hoping for improvements like "consistency in player rating and skill, better simulation and realism for improved gameplay." These upgraded features are only some of the few things that gamers are really anticipating and hoping for in the next installment.
