Derek Hough has sustained injuries while rehearsing for "Dancing With the Stars" on Monday.
"He has been diagnosed with a broken toe on his right foot and sprains to his left ankle on both the inside and outside aspects and a bone bruise on the same ankle," according to the professional dancer's representatives, as reported by PEOPLE. "Derek will remain in Los Angeles this week to rehab his injuries."
"While it remains unclear at this time if Derek will be able to perform on the Monday, April 27 episode of 'Dancing With the Stars,' his partner Nastia Liukin will train in Los Angeles this week with pro-dancer Sasha Farber to prepare for the live show," Hough's reps added, FOX News quoted.
In the meantime, Hough's understudy will fill in for the dancer for the New York Spring Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall in NYC, PEOPLE wrote.
The five-time Mirrorball Trophy winner was also incapable to take part in the special marking the competition's 10th anniversary, which taped on Tuesday and airs April 28 on ABC, Entertainment Weekly reported. The anniversary special was supposed to feature Hough performing with former partner Maria Menounos, Us Weekly noted.
Just recently, Hough took to Instagram to talk about the unfortunate incident. He wrote: "Performing 10 shows a week at Radio City while rehearsing with Nastia for 'DWTS,' I've never felt more healthy, strong and fit. But then a fluke accident happened that involved a light and some stairs. Can't believe it, wish I had a cooler story to tell."
He continued in the lengthy post, "I'm doing everything I possibly can to have a quick recovery and I'm determined to come back stronger than ever. I appreciate all the love and support, you guys are the best. This is new territory for me, I'm usually able to work through injury but this one has literally floored me. But like I said before I'm determined to come back all guns blazing...soon!!!"
According to Us Weekly, Hough has been spotted eating brunch at Blu Jam Cafe in Los Angeles on Wednesday after his release from the hospital. The 29-year-old dancer was seen walking in crutches.
Mark Ballas, Hough's good friend and fellow "DWTS" dancer, said that the incident was "unfortunate" and that the fan-favorite pro had to undergo MRI, E! News reported. Ballas accompanied Hough in the hospital until 2 in the morning.
Describing Hough as an optimist, Ballas said that his friend's energy is always positive and "he's always bringing the people around him up," E! News noted.
Luckily, Liukin has been training with another "DWTS" dancer throughout the season other than Hough due to his Broadway commitments, the news outlet wrote. She has been rehearsing with troupe member Henry Byalikov in LA for a few days now.
