On April 22 of each year, the world celebrates the birth of the modern environmental movement. For a day, the entire world focuses on how to protect Earth. Numerous communities also celebrate it for an entire week.
According to Latin Times, the Earth Day celebration started in 1970. Today, more than 192 countries join the practice and it is now globally coordinated by Earth Day Network.
There are many ways a person can help save Mother Earth. Even while at home, someone can contribute to the Earth's conservation.
According to WikiHow, there are several methods that can help save the planet Earth, and here are some that you can do:
First, wasteful usage of water have a great impact on the planet.
Conserving water is one of the ways to avoid water shortage in your area. Checking for leaking faucet and pipes is a huge help. Another is avoiding running water in dish washing and in brushing your teeth. Replacing old toilets, installing water-saving devices in faucets and toilets and watering your plants with just enough water will also help in water conservation.
Use of chemicals for bath, cleaning homes, cars, and dishes can harm Earth once these chemicals end up in the water supply. Solution of white vinegar and water can be a substitute for basic cleaning jobs, as well as baking soda and salt solution. Toxic waste disposal to the local sanitation department will prevent harmful effects once reached the groundwater.
Second, preserving air quality can help save Earth.
Use less electricity so coal and natural gas emissions will be lessened. Using solar power has been a popular way of conserving energy. Use it for home and water heating. Turning off appliances when not in use and limiting use of appliances can also make a difference. Being a vegetarian or eating locally-sourced meat can reduce air and water pollution, as industrial farming reportedly produces a lot of pollution that harms the planet. Citing UN expert Rajendra Pachauri, Mind Body Green stated that fish sticks and beef burgers also contribute to climate change, over fishing and deforestation. To combat these, Mind Body Green suggests to go meatless on Mondays and Tuesdays, too.
Third, protect the health of land.
By producing less waste, you can reduce impact. Every trash thrown can pile up and end up in a landfill. To avoid this from happening, avoid using plastic bags. Instead, use cloth or paper which is biodegradable and is now evident in markets nationwide. Purchasing and repairing of durable products will avoid buying new ones, thus avoiding trash piles. If possible, make your own stuff. Grow your own food, formulate your own body and cleaning products. Another way of improving health of land is composting. Instead of throwing biodegradable wastes in trash cans, better compost them in a pile so after few weeks, you can gain rich soil for planting.
Fourth, help protect animals.
Making your home a haven for wildlife will definitely help mother Earth. Planting, using traps instead of poisons and having readily available clean food and water will lure animals to live in your place. Inhabiting of these animals in your place is a sign of good ecosystem.
Lastly, conserve energy.
Solar powered appliances are now available in stores. The sun is free. Using these products can cut down energy consumption form electricity.
According to Planet Save, entering the solar energy era can save serious cash money by saving on utilities.
Do your share to help save the planet, even the smallest ways count.
