Talks of a spinoff series for ABC's "Agents of Shield" is slowly becoming a reality as Crave Online reported that the spinoff is set to feature familiar faces: Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood.
Deadline stated that Palicki and Blood, who play the roles of Barbara "Bobbi" Morse and Lance Hunter, respectively, will headline the yet-to-be-named spinoff series. They have been fan favorites who were added to Phil Coulson's (Clark Gregg) team earlier in the season.
Blood's Lance Hunter is a mercenary sharpshooter, while Palicki's Bobbi Morse (AKA Mockingbird) is an undercover agent in the labs of HYDRA Laboratories. Their on-screen chemistry gave a Mr & Mrs Smith vibe on the show, with the sparks that should carry over to the spinoff, Deadline explained.
Entertainment Weekly first reported that the spinoff is being developed by "Agents of SHIELD" producer Jeffrey Bell ("Angel" and "The X-Files) and co-executive producer Paul Zbyszewski ("Lost"and "Hawaiian Fvie-O"), however, until a full script comes in, there is no guarantee that this series could get a greenlight from the studio.
Deadline also reported that the setup of the SHIELD spinoff will allow it to air concurrently with the original series. If ABC learned anything about what went wrong with its hit series "Once Upon A Time" and its spinoff, "Once Upon A Time In Wonderland," it's that using the spinoff as a bridge between seasons is a more sensible idea compared to airing both series on the same schedule, Deadline added.
There is no news about whether or not the the "SHIELD" spinoff will replace "Agent Carter" as a midseason series for ABC, as its renewal is still in discussion, according to Forbes. There is also another Marvel adaptation in the works, rumored to be about the Kamala Khan version or Ms Marvel, being one of the company's most recent breakout characters from the comic book series.
Anything can happen at this point as ABC is still mum about the recent rumors. Who knows, the production may just be ironing out deals and official announcement may come in the next few days.
What do you think about the spinoffs and adaptations that Marvel has in store for its superheroes? Do you think they should go on with a "SHIELD" spinoff, or should Palicki and Blood stay in the original series with Coulson? In the same breadth, should Marvel do a Ms Marvel spinoff, and should they give "Agent Carter" another season on-air?
"Marvel's Agents of SHIELD" Airs Tuesdays at 9 PM on ABC.
