While the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will battle it out for the next several years for the title of best and most popular video game console, the two heavyweights may be under siege from some of the biggest names in modern tech.

This prediction comes from EA CEO Andrew Wilson, who claimed in an interview with Gamesindustry that the two consoles will face "stiff competition" in the future:

"Our market is evolving at a very, very, very rapid rate...I think that Microsoft and Sony have a real opportunity to build a strong following and a strong install base while they continue to be the single best way to get high fidelity, high definition interactive entertainment to your 80-inch television. If you think about Microsoft's strategy--and I think Sony shares some of this in their long-term view, of being a broader entertainment device in your living room--I think they have that time. I think that three years from now, four years from now, they're going to be under some fairly stiff competition for the living room, from mobile providers, from Apple, from Google, from Roku, from Comcast, to try and own that living room experience."

In addition, the EA bigwig stated that the company is less focused on individual platforms and more on how to deliver content to those platforms:

"For us, we are less focused on the device and more focused on the modality of play because we think that will continue irrespective of what piece of technology is used to deliver the [content]."

So how does this prediction that Apple, Google, and others will soon challenge the existing console change the face of the Xbox One vs. PlayStation 4 battle? If the prediction is accurate, then the console that is able to deliver the best multimedia experience could ultimately win the console war. For example, the Xbox One allows users to connect their cable box to the Xbox One, combining live television with Xbox Live notifications and the console's ability to use two apps at once. This could set the console apart and preserve it's place in the living room despite competition from the PlayStation 4 or other future media machines.

Look out for more news right here on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as well as any future gaming or media platforms from big tech firms such as Apple and Google.
