Following the arrival of Samsung's latest flagships, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, the company looks to set eyes on its Galaxy A lineup. According to SamMobile's insiders, the Galaxy A8 is indeed under development, confirming earlier information surrounding the Korean tech giant's application for Galaxy A6, A8 and A9 trademarks.

This may not be surprising to some, considering the company's launch of the Galaxy A7 back in January. As told by ZDNet, the device trails behind full metal-bodied predecessors Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5, only that it comes slightly larger with a 5.5-inch build.

Interestingly, recent reports seem to claim the authenticity of the Galaxy A8's specs, enough to make an early impression on how it fares against its predecessor. We've curated a comparison below.

Release Date

Before we get into specs and features, note that the Galaxy A8 has not been given an official release date. For an insight, the Christian Post nevertheless wrote, "A recent report now claims that A7's successor is coming soon."

Camera

The most interesting word about the Galaxy A8 is it's expected camera. SamMobile said its sources tipped that the handset will be the first non-flagship Galaxy phone to sport a 16 MP rear camera. Its front snapper, on the other hand, is touted to capture at 5 MP.

The Galaxy A7 comes with a 13 MP main camera, capturing at 4128 x 3096 pixels, GSMArena noted. Some of its features include autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama and HDR. Meanwhile, its selfie shooter delivers at 5 MP (1080p).

Design

The Galaxy A8 is believed to be the thinnest Samsung smartphone yet, considering its expected depth of only 5.9 mm (157.7×76.7×5.9 mm), TechRadar cited. The Galaxy A7, in comparison, has a thickness of 6.3 mm (151 x 76.2 x 6.3 mm). With these figures, we can see a cut of 0.4 mm.

Reportedly weighing 140 g, the upcoming handset is down by a gram compared to its predecessor, which weighs 141 g (4.97 oz).

Display

As noted by Pocketnow, the Galaxy A8 is touted to arrive with a 5.7-inch, 1080p display.

In comparison, the Galaxy A7's screen is set at 5.5 inches, sporting a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. It owns a density of 401 ppi.

Processor, RAM & Storage

With regards to things under its hood, the Galaxy A8 is said to pack a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. It isn't certain whether the device supports microSD slot.

The Galaxy A7 also comes with an octa-core chip, composed of 1.8 GHz quadcore and 1.3 GHz quadcore processors, ZDNet pointed. Supporting this are 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of in-built storage and a microSD slot (an additional 64 GB limit).

Battery & Operating System

As mentioned by the reports, the Galaxy A8 will be running Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, powered by a whopping 3,050 mAh battery.

As listed by GSMArena, the Galaxy A7 rooms a non-removable Li-Ion 2,600 mAh battery, initially shipping with Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

One More Thing

While the Galaxy A8 looks to be promising at this point, SamMobile learned that it's set to be "a China-only smartphone." Still, the outlet is convinced that such information may change in the future.
