Los Tigres del Norte's new song, "Era Diferente" or "She was Different," is evident of the group's support for the LGBT community.

Speaking to The Associated Press, which was reported by Fox News Latino, frontman Jorge Hernandez said that he is proud of depicting the LGBT's stories through their music.

"Los Tigres are known for telling stories, for narrating the realities in society. It is evident that we have in front of us a great community that has been standing out more all these years," Hernandez said, as quoted by Fox News Latino.

Penned by Mexican composer Manuel Eduardo Toscano, the track centers on a lesbian in love with another girl, who is her best friend. As what the song says, plenty of men coveted her and did their best to win the woman's affections, but "she was so different from the others" because "she was never interested in no man's love."

"It really surprised me how it said the words and that it doesn't offend anybody, the way in which he carried it was very subtle and we loved it," Hernandez further explained, the news outlet quoted. "We were like, 'Well, I think this is the right moment to say what we have to say about this'. We dared and got wonderful results."

Advocate wrote that "Era Diferente," which is from the five-piece group's new album "Realidades," received a Special Recognition (Spanish Language) award from GLAAD. "Era Diferente" also marks the band's first ever song which is about gay love. This was also the first instance in the genre's history when a norteño group wrote a love song focusing on the LGBT community.

Along with the GLAAD, "Los Tigres del Norte" also bagged six Grammys and six Latin Grammys and were recently honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the news outlet noted.

"I thought that no one would notice this song," Hernandez said, speaking about the award. "When GLAAD called me, I thought it was very important that we are sending a message to the LGBT community," he added, as reported by Advocate.

Monica Trasandes, director of Spanish Media at GLAAD, said that bands who support the LGBT community contribute in making society accept gays.

"There's still a lot to do because sadly, many gay and transgender people in this country and throughout the Americas live very difficult lives," Trasandes said, Fox News Latino reported.

Describing the LGBT community's situations as "relevant," Hernandez said that the song's biggest lesson is that there are no limits when it comes to love and that everyone should be open-minded about it, the news outlet wrote.

Los Tigres del Norte is known for their songs focusing on social issues, such as "De Paisano a Paisano," which tells about "the criminalization of immigrants trying to make a living in America," Advocate wrote, while "Mis Dos Patrias" is about the group's loyalty to their Mexican and American backgrounds.
