Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been steadily unveiling and launching products for their consumers. From the tech company's smartphones to their tablets, Apple makes sure that their devices are up to date in competing against other corporations' gadgets. The iPod Nano, however, might be considered obsolete soon. Speculations have been going around that an 8th generation of the device is not possible.
According to some users on a forum on Mac Rumors, a newer version of the iPod Nano will be discontinued because Apple's current music players -- the iPod Shuffle and iPod Touch -- are currently in the limelight. A user called LucasLand, however, said that Apple could still make an iPod Nano 8th gen in order to cater to kids who don't have much money and could only afford low priced music players.
Users on Quora also expressed doubts over an iPod Nano 8th gen. The steadily rising appeal of smartphones and tablets also contribute on hindering the popularity of a device solely made for listening to music.
Rumors also suggest that the next iPhone could resemble the iPod Nano, which was first launched in 2005 to replace the iPod Mini, App Advice wrote. The iPod Nano was last updated in October 2012, with a space gray colored model released last fall. The recently released iWatch could also contribute in rendering the iPod Nano discontinued.
More Rumors
The October 2012 version of the iPod Nano was a vast improvement from its predecessors. As The Apple Update pointed out, the music device was equipped with a simpler version of iOS, a larger and more useable touchscreen, and the inclusion of a home button, which is also present in Apple's other devices.
With a camera included in the iPod Touch 5G, the 8th generation of the iPod Nano could also come with a shooter as well. The Apple Update noted that "a modified version of the 5 megapixel camera found on the iPhone 4" could go in the iPod Nano 8G as an upgrade.
This news, however, wasn't entirely new. The news outlet pointed out that the old 5th generation Nano actually did have a meager 0.3 MP camera. The feature wasn't much and only allowed users to record videos without taking photos.
Touch Reviews, on the other hand, reported that the iPod Nano 8G could be equipped with a 1.3 MP camera attached behind the clip. Leaked images of the purported device show that the music player features a clip-on design as well as a casing with an almost identical housing. The news outlet noted that "the camera module would be placed directly underneath the clip, allowing it to stay within the overall envelope."
The current iPod Nano has a capacity of 16 GB with 2.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen Multi-Touch display and a 240-by-432-pixel resolution, Apple's official site wrote.
