A sneak peek of Matteo Garrone's new film "The Tale of Tales" has been unveiled prior to the Cannes Film Festival's Thursday release of their official lineup.

Loosely based on the collection of fairy tales by 17th century Italian poet Giambattista Basile, "The Tale of Tales" will showcase a fantastical ambiance featuring characters portrayed by Salma Hayek, Vincent Cassel, John C. Reilly, Toby Jones, Stacy Martin, Alba Rohrwacher, and Massimo Ceccherini, Indie Wire reported.

"The Tale of Tales" is slated for release in Italian theaters on May 14, 2015, Indie Wire wrote. Speaking to Variety about the movie's genre, Garrone said that he would describe "The Tale of Tales" as "a fantasy film with horror elements."

"The stories we chose to work with are amazing because they are so modern, so contemporary. They comprise a yearning for youth and physical beauty, the suffering of a woman willing to do anything to have a child, generational conflict, the struggle for power," the filmmaker told Variety.

Salma Hayek's 'The Prophet' to Feature Lebanese Culture

Hayek's other film titled "The "Prophet," which is based on Kahlil Gibran's novel of the same name, is also set for release in theaters soon, Step Feed reported. The animated flick's official April 27 release date in Beirut, Lebanon, will feature Hayek, the producer and director of the movie, as the voice behind the character Kamila.

The 48-year-old actress, who is of Lebanese descent, will also attend the film's premiere. It was announced last month that it will be released in the United States on August 27 in Los Angeles and New York, Step Feed noted.

Aside from Hayek, "The Prophet" also stars Liam Neeson as Mustafa, John Krasinski as Halim, Alfred Molina as Sergeant, Quvenzhané Wallis as Almitra, and Frank Langella as Pasha, the news outlet wrote.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hayek shared that "being of Lebanese descent, I'm particularly proud to be part of a project that will present this masterpiece to new generations, in a way never seen before."

The Mexican actress also starred in the Joe Lynch action thriller "Everly," Daily Mail reported. The flick features Hayek as a former prostitute who gets trapped in her own home while her gangster ex-boyfriend tries to murder her.

In addition to her film commitments, the movie star is also active when it comes to product endorsements. Just recently, she was chosen as the new face of the prestigious Milanese jewelry brand Pomellato, Latin Times reported.
