We've seen change in the Air. What's next?
When Apple unveiled one of the world's thinnest tablets in 2014, speculations aimed at its successor immediately went following. The iPad Air 2, "impossibly thin" as branded, is a living testament to the company's efforts of maintaining the signature brand we've known for years -- sleek, premium and innovative.
That being said, the "iPad Air 3" has easily become one of this year's most anticipated devices. Sure, we've heard about the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6c, iPhone 7 and the sixth-generation iPod touch, but considering previous reports, Apple's tablets are what we're most concerned about.
For those who may not know, Ming-Chi Kuo, KGI Securities analyst, predicted in February that 2015 will be gloomy for iPad sales, the Business Insider reported.
As cited by the outlet, sales performance may drop 30% "year-over-year," the biggest decline in iPad's history yet.
Despite the alleged birth of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro (aka iPad Air Plus / iPad Plus), KGI does not expect it to "contribute meaningfully to shipments momentum anytime soon," 9to5Mac noted.
At this point, Apple has not confirmed the development of an iPad Air 3, including the rest of its rumored devices. The Apple Watch, assumed to be the company's focus, is yet to arrive on Apr. 24, so we may not be hearing big details this early.
Nevertheless, we've curated what the web wants to see in the next iPad Air below. Check them out:
Release Date & Price Details
Before we get into specs and features, note that the iPad Air 3 is speculated to launch beside iOS 9. The new operating system is expected on the second half of 2015, the Inquisitr wrote.
Details on the iPad Air 3's pricing remain scarce, but for an insight, Macworld predicted, "Most likely it will cost pretty much what the iPad Air 2 cost when it launched."
For its 16 GB Wi-Fi version, the iPad Air 2 is priced for $499, while the Wi-Fi + Cellular model sells for $629 at the same capacity.
Wish #1: A Larger Touch Screen
A bigger display is part of ipadair3update.com's wishlist, on top of an improvement in resolution. While the outlet has thought of a pixel density worth 401 ppi, it dubs such as "fatal to the battery life."
A 401 ppi resolution is similar to the iPhone 6 Plus, which comes with a 1920 x 1080 Retina HD screen.
Wish #2: NFC Support
This feature is part of Gotta Be Mobile's list, seen by the outlet as "neat" to have, but "not for Apple Pay purposes."
As told by GBM, NFC will allow the iPhone and iPad to communicate, providing more possibilities in the long run.
Wish #3: A Similar Form Factor -- in Another Color
To date, the iPad Air 2 runs as the world's second-thinnest tablet (6.1 mm), next to Dell's Venue 8 7840. Users would know that Apple has cut 1.4 mm from the original iPad Air (7.5 mm) to its latest device, and this makes us wonder how the iPad Air 3 can go further.
Load The Game is convinced that making the rumored tablet thinner and lighter can negatively affect it, compromising durability and resistance. Hence, the outlet expects Apple to "keep the form factor and design." To them, an extra color option, among few other tweaks, may do the job.
Wish #4: A9X Processor
While we haven't seen an A9 chip yet, The Bitbag cited expectations of a more advanced A9X processor.
As noted by the outlet, the chip is believed to marry 4 GB RAM, and comparing it to the iPad Air 2, we might just see a huge difference. Fans may love this upgrade.
Wish #5: 13 MP Main Camera
The iPad Air 3 is expected to have a 13 MP rear camera, Technochilly said. This is touted to be a "revamped iSight snapper." In front, the device is purported to shoot at 5 MP.
Photography junkies and selfie-lovers will definitely like these upgrades, but until Apple confirms, healthy pinches of salt may best be taken.
Do you expect to see a thinner iPad Air 3? Which features are worth the upgrade? Sound off in the comments section.
