The Philadelphia 76ers had an excellent start in the 2013-14 NBA, proving their doubters wrong after being projected as one of the teams that could be in "tank mode" this season to acquire a solid player in the 2014 NBA Draft.

But after starting the season with three-straight victories, the 76ers struggled and are now currently sitting at the 11th spot in the Eastern Conference standings with their 6-12 record.

Considering their recent struggles and the fact that they are still in a rebuilding mode, the 76ers could soon blow up their roster and forward Thaddeus Young could be one of the pieces that they could trade to another team before this season's trade deadline, Philly.com reported.

Young, who is averaging 15.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game this season, is making $8.85 million this season and is set to earn $19.4 million in the next two years if he decides to pick up his player option for the 2015-16 season. Young's contract looks discouraging, but he is expected to attract interests of title-contending teams.

"Thad is the only one signed beyond this year. Some people see that as a negative," Philly.com noted. "He is 25 years old on a fair contract, that's more valuable than an expiring for most teams. In the $9M range, he's getting paid like the 4th-best player on most contending teams. That's excellent value. It varies on a team-to-team basis, but discounting Thad because his contract is longer would be off the mark."

If the 76ers decide to trade the seven-year veteran forward, the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Houston Rockets are perceived as likely destinations for the former Georgia Tech standout.

The Rockets and the 76ers could pull a trade involving Young and Omer Asik, while the Thunder could offer young prospects, including draft picks for the versatile forward.

Outside of the Thunder and the Rockets, the 76ers could also trade away Young to a team that could offer a first-round pick in the 2014 or 2015 along with expiring contracts to make the deal work in terms of salary.
