Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) may be releaing the new iMac 8K this year. The news spread when LG Display, the LCD panel maker based in South Korea, claimed the release on its blog last week and captured the interest of its readers. However, this still left comments from the thread unverified.

According to MacRumors, LG Display said that Apple will definitely release the "iMac 8K" later this year, though the company did not confirm this yet. The 8K displays on the other hand, are to be expected by 2016.

Here's a part of the blog entry.

"It has become clear that Japan is planning to launch an 8K SHV test broadcast and then promptly restructure the UHD service. Apple has also announced that they will release the 'iMac 8K' with a super-high resolution display later this year. Korea is also preparing to offer an 8K service demonstration at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. LG Display displayed a new beacon of the 8K era by revealing their 98-inch 8K Color Prime Ultra HDTV at CES 2015."

The page is no longer online, however, as stated on Peta Pixel, Apple's release of its latest model, the 27-inch iMac with 5K display was just last October, so it would be too soon to present another model to compete in the market. Yet, it is also believed that Apple is working on a higher-resolution display and that is to be released later this year as stated on Mashable. It was LG's press release that affirmed news that the company is set to release this product. It also mentioned a launch in Japan, along with a service demonstration at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in Korea.

The report also discussed in detail that the iMac 8K will be a super-high resolution display at 7680 x 4320 pixels, which is much higher than today's highest-resolution iMac (the iMac 27-inch with Retina 5K Display which features a 5120 x 2880-pixel resolution). It will have four times the resolution of a 4K screen and four times the number of pixels.

Rumors said that Apple will most likely be launching this new model in October 2015 since based on its launching history, its releases in September are for the flagship smartphones. The releases in October, on the other hand, are usually for iPads, desktops and the desktop operating systems, as noted by Master Herald.

Do you think the model is ready for release in October, or will we be waiting just a bit longer for a very high-res iMac?
