Joan Sebastian is undergoing cancer treatment in a hospital, his son confirmed.

In an interview on the morning show "Hoy," Julián Figueroa, the "Secreto de Amor" singer's son with Maribel Guardia, revealed that he first hesitated to talk about his father's medical condition because "he was not authorized to talk" about the matter, Latin Times wrote.

"My father is not in the middle of a horrible crisis," Figueroa explained, as quoted by Latin Times. "We are going to inform the public so they are aware and so they won't worry about my father. What is happening is that he's under a new treatment that they are testing on my father. They are doing it at the hospital so they can see the results. My father is stable, obviously with the implications of having cancer, but he isn't in greater danger."

It was in 1999 when Sebastian was first diagnosed with bone cancer, with the disease coming back in 2007 and 2012, the news outlet reported. In early 2014, the 62-year-old artist revealed, during his Zacatecas performances, that his cancer is back for the fourth time, adding that he wouldn't be able to do his infamous jaripeo numbers.

"We booked these dates two months ago, I didn't know that I would need chemotherapy again," the "Lobo Domesticado" singer said back then, as quoted by Latin Times. "I am very conscious that this is something I have to deal with and I have fortunately been able to pull through."

He continued, "The love and claps from the audience is what keeps me going, I will not be retiring. I am very aware of the chemotherapy experience. I am not retiring, I am saying goodbye to the rodeos only. I want to retire on a high, I'm retiring from horses because I cannot mount anymore. There are various indicators and some members of my family suffer too much, it's the moment."

A separate report from Latin Times, published in August 2014, indicated that the singer fell off his horse in his sold out rodeo show held at the Plaza de Toros in Mexico City. Spectators have stated at the time that Sebastian "looked very hesitant" and "not like his usual confident self," the news outlet noted. The incident was blamed on the Mexican Grammy award winner's low blood sugar and cancer treatment.

Sebastian's effort in performing was still undeterred and he continued the show while sitting down. The concert had to be stopped when he tried to stand up and dance "Juliantla" but was unable to do so.
