Boxer Marvin "Papi Gallo" Jones claims that his cellphone drop during a bout against Ramon Luis Nicolas cost him the fight.

During the Friday night match, it was seen that a mobile phone dropped from the trunks of Jones then the referee immediately picked it up and handed it to Jones' side of the ring. The crowd laughed at the instance and Jones bowed a few times in a fashion which looked like he was apologizing for the incident.

According to the Toronto Sun, a falling cellular phone is not one of the things people expect to see in a boxing ring.

"Because, let's face it, there really is no need to order a pizza or text your buddy when you're about to throw down with another dude," Toronto Sun added.

Discussing the details of what appeared to be a humiliating scene, the same report said referee Frank Santore noticed the phone falling to the canvas during the first few seconds of the fight.

It appears that Jones should have used his phone to call for help, says the Toronto Sun, as he was knocked out by Nicolas, sealing a fourth straight loss since reclaiming his career in 2011.

TMZ said in a report that Jones was listening to music prior to the fight, leaving his phone tucked inside his shorts. He was, however, unable to get rid of it when he pulled off his headphones when the match was about to start.

"Next thing ya know his Samsung Galaxy's taking a standing 8," TMZ added.

Jones claimed that he lost focus and was not able to fight well because of the incident.

"Man, my cell phone just fell out in the ring - and on TV!" he added in the TMZ report

To avoid the same incident from happening again, Jones told TMZ that for his next fights he "will just have someone pat me down."

Maybe Jones was just trying to put the blame on the cell phone drop incident for his loss as he was just not focused enough in his fight against Nicolas. Or maybe the humiliation brought by it was too much for him to take.

Aside from teaching the boxer a precious lesson during the fight, the incident also serves as an example to other fighters: placing things inside their trunks prior to a boxing match is isn't the best idea.

It is safe to say that Jones could keep his mobile phone out of reach before fights from now on. Or will he?
