The third season of "East Los High" will feature new faces in its cast lineup.
According to a report from Latina, the teen drama has taken on Oscar-nominated actress Catalina Sandino Moreno and "Revolution" star JD Pardo to portray roles in the Hulu original series. Moreno will play the character Carmen, "the strong and loving mother of the Bomb Squad's new heartthrob," Carlito Olivero's Eddie.
Carmen, an undocumented immigrant with an illness, "will do anything to give her son the best life possible" despite her situation, Latina wrote. Carmen will be "forced to decide between her son's future or her own" and display more courage in the process.
Pardo, on the other hand, is set to portray the mysterious newcomer Jesus, the news outlet noted. Vannessa Vasquez's Camila will be forced to work with the dangerous heartthrob and soon discovers "there is more to Jesus" than what meets the eye.
Aside from her commitment in "East Los High," Moreno is also set to star in the indie courtroom drama "Custody" alongside two-time Oscar nominee Viola Davis, The Wrap wrote. The film is written and directed by James Lapine of "Into the Woods."
Moreno also starred in another film titled "Medeas" which was released in January, NY Daily News noted. Her TV roles include appearances in TNT's "Falling Skies" and FX's "The Bridge."
Reality star Christina Milian is also onboard to star in the third season of "East Los High," Variety reports. The teen drama, which showcases an all-Latino cast, focuses on "the lives of teenagers growing up in East Los Angeles from the American-Latino perspective."
The 33-year-old entertainer will play Liliana, "a kick-ass music producer at R&R Records who becomes Camila's mentor," Variety noted. In her task as Camila's guide in the music scene, Liliana learns that she might need to lead her new apprentice "in more ways than either expected."
The upcoming season of the series, which debuts in summer, will once again see romance, sex, dancing, and mystery infiltrating East Los High. The new episodes will also showcase the Bomb Squad dance team "step up their game with some unexpected new team members," the news outlet further reports.
"East Los High" was the brainchild of creators Carlos Portugal and Kathleen Bedoya, The Hollywood Reporter wrote. It was produced by Population Media Center, Prajna Productions, Into Action Films, and The Alchemists. Hulu previously stated that the series is popular with women ages 18 to 35 and was the top 10 show on the online streamer in 2014.
