The next iteration of Motorola's Moto X flagship is expected to arrive the earliest in August, if previous launches are to be considered.
According to Christian Today, Rick Osterloh, president of Motorola, confirmed in a dialogue that the company will "stay on a roughly annual cycle for all of our products, including Moto X."
Followers would remember that the second-generation Moto X (2014) came out in September, while the first Moto X (2013) saw the light of day in August. Hence, these months prove to be a viable time frame for the new Moto X's introduction.
In particular, Christian Today predicted that the device may be launched in August, followed by a market release the succeeding month. Meanwhile, the latest Moto X is six months old, TechRadar noted.
BGR assumed that October could mark the latest launch of the new device.
While much of the handset's details remain to be products of speculations, the Ecumenical News reported that Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 processor has been confirmed to run "a new Moto flagship smartphone." Interestingly, this device is believed to be the new Moto X.
However, the Ecumenical News also cited Snapdragon 810's reported overheating issues. The outlet said Qualcomm is developing a cooler Snapdragon 815 successor. Reportedly, a Snapdragon 820 chip has also been introduced.
That being said, the source is convinced that the new Moto X could pack either of the newer Snapdragon chips.
A user from this Android Central forum wanted to see the upcoming handset pack a 5.5-inch display, 16 MP main camera, 3 MP front snapper 2.5 GB of RAM, 3000 mAh battery and an expandable storage.
In this thread, a user hoped to see a 5-inch display, 32 GB starting storage, wireless charging, waterproofing abilities, slider keyboard model and 48-hour battery.
This Reddit user is fine with a smaller 4.7-inch screen, 1080p AMOLED display, 16 GB starting storage, 2900 mAh battery, Snapdragon 808 or 810 chip, 4K video recording and USB Type C support.
As users would know, the 2014 Moto X packs a 5.2-inch screen, a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, Snapdragon 801, Adreno 330 GPU, 13 MP main camera and 2 MP front snapper, GSMArena noted. It is powered by a non-removable Li-Ion 2300 mAh battery.
Camera features include autofocus, dual-LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama and HDR. Sensors include accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer and temperature.
Weighing 144 g (5.08 oz), the current Moto X measures 140.8 x 72.4 x 10 mm. It is also water-resistant.
Do you own any of the existing Moto X models? What changes do you expect to see in the new version?
