New York Knicks president Phil Jackson reportedly wants to add to his team someone with a big butt.
Charley Rosen, Jackson's buddy and assistant coach with the Albany Patroons, said in a New York Post article that the Knicks' priority during the offseason is a center.
Rosen added that Karl-Anthony Towns of the Kentucky Wildcats, who is believed to be the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft, "is not the answer" to the team's need. He, however, noted that Jackson could instead pick up free agent Greg Monroe.
Jackson's buddy, according to New York Post, is a bit skeptical about Towns even if he has led his team during their recent win against Notre Dame.
"They need a center with a big butt to hold space. They didn't have anybody like that. It takes away a major portion of what you can do with the triangle because then it really becomes just a perimeter offense,'' Rosen added.
He also noted that the Kentucky star's body is "not big enough."
"He'd never get that position in the NBA. He doesn't have enough power or core strength. He wouldn't be able to set up one dribble away from the basket. He's not a kind of center you need in the triangle. He's not physically that type of center, but he's athletic and does other things. Look how far out (Lou) Amundson, (Jason) Smith and (Andrea) Bargnani get pushed out when they post up, well out of the box,'' Rosen explained in the New York Post article.
Monroe, on the other hand, is a southpaw, whom according to Rosen, Jackson would love to have on the team.
"He can score down there. He's big, can hold his ground in the post, is left-handed, which holds an advantage to do unexpected things. He can establish position, has good hands and he's a pretty good passer. He'd be a great fit,'' he said of Monroe.
A similar Barstool Sports report said that it is a bit scary that Jackson is interested in players with big butts since it noted that in previous years, players with bigger waistlines mean bigger failures for the team.
With what Rosen said, the public is now curious on who Jackson will pick during the 2015 NBA Draft especially with what Sporting News termed as "junk in the trunk" qualification. It added that what Rosen said is "pretty insane" especially taking into consideration that Towns is just 19 years old.
"Rosen comparing Towns in a wraparound way to Amundson, Smith and Bargnani is ridiculous on its face. In any case, what this is code for is that the Knicks will definitely take Jahlil Okafor -- noted butt-haver -- if they can get him with whatever pick they secure," Sporting News added.
