After "Maleficent" and "Cinderella" made waves in the box office as the live-action takes of Disney animated classics, the House of Mouse is looking to produce "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Jungle Book" as well.
Most recently, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Disney announced it will also make a live-action version of another one of its classic favorites --- the girl worth fighting for: Mulan.
According to CNN, Disney bought a script from writing team Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek. The story of Hua Mulan revolves around the Chinese legend, a female warrior who pretended to be a man in honor to save her father, and the main protagonist for Disney's 1998 film.
Here's the best part, though: with no casting or release dates announced yet, it's time for the cyber world to post the possible actress to play the female warrior. With Jamie Chung portraying Mulan in ABC's "Once Upon A Time," it is highly unlikely that they will tap her again for the role, so here are a few other suggestions as to who Mulan could be in Disney's latest adaptation:
1) Brenda Song - Former Disney actress and comedienne, Brenda Song, has been transitioning past her Disney character to become more of a serious and more mature actress as she moved to acting in mainstream films and shows, including "The Social Network," "Scandal," and "New Girl."
2) Jenna Ushkowitz - Former "New Directions" member Jenna Ushkowitz can probably shift from being one of the few Asian cast members in "Glee" to being her own hero in "Mulan." From her stint in Ryan Murphy's recently concluded comedy-musical series, we know she has the singing chops to belt out songs from the Disney soundtrack, so at least we know she's going to sound good.
3) Lana Condor - She may be new in the biz, but if she can play a superhero for the new "X-Men" film, a sword-wielding female legend won't be too much of a stretch.
4) Malese Jow - She had recurring roles in hit TV shows like "The Vampire Diaries" and currently, "The Flash," but she's definitely a good addition to the cast of both these shows so she could probably hold her own as a lead. Besides, it's about time she gets a lead role, don't you think?
5) Nan Zhang - One of Blair Waldorf's minions in the CW series, "Gossip Girl," Nan Zhang could give a strong character a try as opposed to being one of Queen B's little minions. Unfortunately, the "Gossip Girl" alum has decided to stop acting as she pursued a Neurosicence / Pre-Med program at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
Which one of these actresses would you want to play "Mulan"?
