If you couldn't imagine anyone else besides Hugh Jackman play the role of Wolverine, then you might want to take this time to get used of the idea that at some point, the Australian actor will stop being the iconic mutant, and it seems that he's planning on taking off the claws very soon.

According to Screen Rant, the actor has changed his mind a couple of times about the role, admitting that his character will definitely be recast in the future, to saying that he wants to keep on playing the character.

In fact, while he was explaining how Michael Keaton's portrayal of "Birdman" inspired him, he told Cigar Aficionado (via E! News): "I said to my wife, 'The moral is that I should never stop playing Wolverine. I've got to find a way to keep playing him until I die.' I know that someday they'll recast the role with another actor...I'd be happy if the role was eventually recast. It would mean that it had become iconic."

However, he shared an image recently that somewhat alarmed fans on Instagram and Twitter, as the caption read, "WOLVERINE... ONE LAST TIME, HJ"

Later, it was confirmed by director James Mangold via Twitter that the film will be "Wolverine 3."

Rolling Stone noted that giving up the role after "Wolverine 3" would mean that he's closing the book as part of the X-Men team after 17 years and eight films. Jackman has appeared in every "X-Men" film in the original trilogy, with another two spinoffs focusing on his character, Logan. He also appeared in "X-Men: First Class" and another when the X-Men universe was expanded to include "Days of Future Past."

It was only last year that Jackman admitted the possibility of ending his time as the Adamantium-clawed mutant, saying, "If I did another [Wolverine film], I'm 99.9 percent sure it would be the last, so that will inform what it is for me." Admitting that a recast will be inevitable, Rolling Stone pointed out that in the years that the 49-year-old actor has been playing the superhero, he's already seen two Spider-Men, with a third one appearing soon. Jackman is open to playing an older version of Logan, though, if the franchise allows.

While the third Wolverine film is definitely happening, it's still unclear if this means he's going to appear in next year's "X-Men: Apocalypse." However, his "X-Men" co-stars Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, who played Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto, already said they will not be making appearances, with Jennifer Lawrence also telling MTV News that "Apocalypse" will be her last as Mystique.

Further involvement, specifically, if he's going to be making cameo appearances in the franchise spinoffs that included Ryan Reynold's "Deadpool" film, and Channing Tatum's "Gambit," are also yet to be confirmed.

Do you want Hugh Jackman to keep playing Wolverine, or should the hero be recast soon?
