It was made public that "Fifty Shades of Grey" director Sam Taylor-Johnson couldn't get along very well with EL James, the author of the trilogy from which the film was based upon. But with the very large profits the film was making, it's a sure thing that they're going to go on with the sequels, with or without Taylor-Johnson.
According to Screen Rant, the film's leads, Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson have already signed on to their return, and looking at pay raises, however, without a director to take the reins, the film is still at a standstill.
In an earlier statement to Deadline, Taylor-Johnson said, "Directing Fifty Shades Of Grey has been an intense and incredible journey for which I am hugely grateful. I have Universal to thank for that. I forged close and lasting relationships with the cast, producers and crew and most especially, with Dakota and Jamie. While I will not be returning to direct the sequels, I wish nothing but success to whosoever takes on the exciting challenges of films two and three."
News Shopper wrote that Taylor-Johnson was also vocal about her conflicts with the James, saying, "It was difficult, I'm not going to lie. We definitely fought - but they were creative fights and we would resolve them."
Besides her personal issues with the author, Taylor-Johnson also quit because she's already felt like she's "wrung dry" for her work, News Shopper citing her saying, "It's like walking a knife edge ... the moment I stepped out of the meeting, I stepped on to one of those bullet trains. I need to get off and breathe and think about something else."
Without Taylor-Johnson to helm the sequel - titled "Fifty Shades Darker" - another name popped up as one of the possible directors, but it seems unlikely that she will do the project. Rumors of Angelina Jolie helming the project has gone on for some time, but she went on record last year to say that she simply cannot do it.
The actress-turned-director told Entertainment Weekly laughingly, "I - I think they're just ... it's funny, I think with directing, you just think, 'I'm better at telling some stories than others,' but, um, who knows? I came very clear out of the gate: after 'Blood And Honey,' if I ever directed again, it would have to be a certain kind of film."
That being said, it's going to be unlikely that the former UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador will change her mind about directing the raunchy films.
With Sam Taylor-Johnson and Angelina out of the picture, who do you think should helm the next installment in the series?
