The Hispanic version of Spider-Man, Miles Morales, is set to move from the Ultimate Marvel Universe to the main Marvel Universe, reports say.
According to Comics Alliance, Morales will join Marvel's post-"Secret Wars" Avengers roster alongside Iron Man, Vision, Captain America (Sam Wilson), Thor (current version), Nova (Sam Alexander), and Ms. Marvel. The full cover of Marvel's Free Comic Book Day offering was leaked on 4chan recently, which featured Morales in the "All-New, All-Different Avengers."
The cover also revealed the new batch of creative team for the comics, namely: writer Mark Waid, artist Mahmud Asrar, and colorist Laura Martin, IGN reports. The formulation of this new team will be revealed in "Secret Wars," "an event that sees the Ultimate Marvel U and the main Marvel U smashing together."
Comics Alliance also noted that majority of the characters featured in the new Marvel roster are teenagers (Morales, Ms Marvel, and Nova).
For those unacquainted with the character, Morales is the Spider-Man of the Marvel Ultimate Universe who also got his powers through a spider bite. He's "a half-black, half-Latino teenager who took the role of Spider-Man after Peter Parker's death at the hands of the Green Goblin," Fox News Latino wrote. Morales, however, was hesitant to use his powers after Parker died.
IGN noted that Morales was created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli "in 2011 in Marvel's Ultimate line of comics, which take place in an alternate universe." Despite the lowering popularity of Marvel's Ultimate comics line, Morales still managed to gather a huge following, which was also due to the first-rate storytelling.
Spider-Man to Join MCU
Now that it has been confirmed by Sony and Marvel that Spider-Man will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon, fans have been wondering whether the superhero will come back as Peter Parker or as Morales, his Hispanic version.
All of the Spider-Man films followed the life of Parker, which was portrayed by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in the movies. However, fans of the popular comic book superhero are suggesting that it's probably time for the franchise to turn into a new direction, specifically towards Morales, according to Fox News Latino.
The news outlet noted that the new installment of the Spider-Man franchise will be produced by Marvel, but the studio also stated that the superhero will appear in an unspecified Marvel film first.
Spider-Man interacted with Marvel's The Avengers in the comic book series, but was unable to do so in the movies because of licensing agreements, Fox News Latino noted.
