The leads of the X-Men series - James McAvoy as the younger Professor X, Michael Fassbender as the young Magneto, and Jennifer Lawrence as the young Mystique - are all expected to quit the franchise after "Apocalypse," so it is a good thing that the film is set to introduce a new generation of mutants featured in previous films, and new ones as well, one of which will be seen in next year's film.
The upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse" will add Jubilation Lee AKA Jubilee to the cast of characters, and although she has made cameos in previous X-Men live action films, she's one of those characters that were not made part of the story line, and can easily be missed if you did not pay enough attention.
According to Variety, Jubilee appeared as a teenage mutant in the "Uncanny X-Men" in 1989, often portrayed to be wearing a yellow raincoat. In the silver screen, the character was portrayed by Katrina Florence in the first "X-Men" film and by Kea Wong in "X2" and "X-Men: First Class."
Jubilee may be making a more significant contribution for the X-Men in "Apocalypse." According to Screen Rant, the mutant who possesses the ability to create pyrotechnic energy plasmoids with her hands is going to be played by newbie Lana Condor, as announced via Twitter by director Bryan Singer himself.
Slash Film noted that while "X-Men" cast members are all established A-list stars, Candor is an up-and-comer, and probably the newest in the biz of them all, as the website noted that she does not have any IMDb credits to her name, making this high-profile film her debut in Hollywood.
"Apocalypse" will add more new characters, and playing the younger versions of the main X-Men mutants are Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) as Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan (Mud) as Scott Summers AKA Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp (Straight Outta Compton) as Ororo Munroe AKA Storm, Kodi Smit-McPhee (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) as Kurt Wagner AKA Nightcrawler.
Ben Hardy (East Enders) is also signed up for the film, although his character has not been announced yet, but is expected to be a mutant.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" will star James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and Rose Bryne, along with the younger generation recently announced, however, the older iterations of Professor X and Magneto, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart will not be returning.
Directed by Bryan Singer, "X-Men: Apocalypse" is set to be released on May 27, 2016.
