While it hasn't been long since the market is introduced to the GoPro Hero 4's Black and Silver editions, the GoPro Hero 5 makes another appearance in recent headlines. This time, the alleged successor is touted to rival Xiaomi, which previously announced plans of working on a similar device, ValueWalk reported.

According to the outlet, Xiaomi 's action camera is said come at an intimidating price of roughly $65, way cheaper than the $130 entry-level GoPro Hero 4.

It is unclear whether the source refers to a new Xiaomi product or the recently-unveiled Yi Action Camera, which has only been made available to the Chinese market. According to The Verge, the device packs a 16 MP camera that shoots 1080p video at 60 frames per second. It is priced for 399 CNY ($64 USD).

Either way, a device half the price that offers close specifications may not be ignored. If speculations hold truth, GoPro looks to be in such position where it must compete hard -- though we're still looking forward to hear more details on Xiaomi's product/s, and whether it's / they're bound to hit international markets soon.

In a recently-published article, The Fuse Joplin cited rumors, which claim that the GoPro Hero 5 won't arrive sooner than September. The outlet is convinced that a September to October time frame would be viable.

Such prediction appears to be possible, if we are to track the lineup's launch history. The Gospel Herald said all previous GoPro cameras have launched in September or October.

As previously reported, the GoPro Hero 5 is touted to pack an A10 chip, which allows it to record 4K videos at a rate of 60 frames per second (fps). This may be the most interesting rumor aimed at the camera so far, but remember that it's also been said that 8K resolution is likely.

In comparison, the Hero 4 Black, priced at $499, is able to shoot 4K videos at the rate of 30 frames per second. The $100-cheaper Hero 4 Silver captures videos in two settings: 1080p at 60 frames per second or 720p at 120 frames per second.

As told by The Fuse Joplin, the GoPro Hero 5 could resist a maximum underwater depth of 60 meters, deeper than the 40-meter capacity offered by its predecessor.

The GoPro Hero 5 is also expected to feature a dual-lens set-up, ValueWalk noted. The outlet cited analysts, who claimed that the camera sells "somewhere between" $400 and $500.

What do you think about Xiaomi's entry in the action camera market? Has GoPro finally found a long-standing competitor? Sound off in the comments section.
