"Ragnarok" is usually associated with the massive multi-player roleplaying game, but Marvel has taken it to themselves to make it synonymous to one of their superhero movies.
A third installment for the "Thor" franchise has already been announced, but the specific details are still unknown, with the title and projected release date the only ones to be confirmed. "Thor 3: Ragnarok" is set to be released on November 3, 2017, according to a release from the official Marvel website.
Just in case there's confusion with the title from the popular game, Ecumenical News explained that Ragnarok refers to a kind of apocalypse that represents the end of Thor's home, Asgard. This title also indicates that "Ragnarok" will close the story on Thor as the end of the trilogy, however, that has not been confirmed yet.
Ecumenical News also noted that Chris Hemsworth is still set to return as "Thor" with the majority of the supporting cast expected to reprise their roles. However, it seems that Thor's brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) will have a bigger film as compared to "Thor 2".
Last year, Hemsworth spoke to Screen Rant about where "Thor 3" is set to go, telling the website, "I think what's good about this is that each time, with the Avengers, we sort of made it difficult to separate them each time there's some sort of conflict it's like where's the rest of the team? And I liked that Thor has another universe or the universe to sort of take care of and keep him occupied. I think that in the comic book the sort of end of days, Armageddon aspect is probably the direction in which it will all head in. Where it's sort of the end of all things and there's obviously no script or anything when I read the comic books I thought it was an interesting way to go."
The website also noted that one of Thor's greatest enemies may be appearing in Ragnarok: Surtur, the leader of the Fire Demons from Muspelheim.
The International Business Times noted that Hiddleston provided remarks about "Thor 3" in February, saying, "'Thor 3' is happening at some point and the last time we saw Loki he was on the throne, so there's some questions to be answered."
Speaking about his character, Hiddleston also addressed the possibility of playing Loki in the long run, saying, "I don't know if I could. I think if I keep dying my hair black, it's going to fall out. I love the character. It's a great character; it's amazing how the whole Marvel world has been embraced by people who love film."
There is a surprise that fans would definitely welcome, though. According to the Christian Post, another character that could appear in the story is Loki's love interest, called The Enchantress, Sigyn.
Do you think "Ragnarok" will be the end of the Thor storyline for MCU?
