Michael Sam's "Dancing With the Stars" cha cha routine was not the judges' favorite but a certain part of his body caught their attention.
TMZ said that when Sam danced to the tune of Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk," his behind was immediately noticed by the show's judges Bruno Tonioli and Len Goodman.
"That butt was a work of art. Michelangelo's 'David' has nothing on you," said Tonioli.
This was also supported by Goodman who said that Sam could win "Rear of the Year."
According to Washington Post, Sam and Murgatroyd ranked 5th in the entire competition with them garnering 26 points from the judges. Tonioli said the performance was "well done" while Julianne Hough told him his feet were "sloppy." Goodman seemed to agree with Hough's comments as he described Sam's footwork as "atrocious."
"You are a beautiful, gorgeous man and you have an incredible body," was Carrie Ann Inaba's comment. She also told Sam to drop his fake smile during performances.
USA Today observed that Sam "crushed" his first routine in the show. "I suppose it's just difficult to get over how good his footwork was, but it makes sense, considering that Sam had been cross-training for the combine while training for the show," added Micah Peters in the USA Today report.
It also noted that the performance was a combination of Sam's lack of talent and his lack of interest on what he was doing.
Sam reportedly wanted to join the show to get into shape before the NFL combine which is set to happen in a few weeks' time. He was cut by the St. Louis Rams and is now a free agent. Joining the dancing show, according to Washington Post, could also be a way to silence his haters. Sam, despite appearing on the TV show, earlier said that he is determined to enter the NFL again. It seems football is still his top priority.
Though Sam did not perform his best on his debut, Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's daughter surely did. Rumer Willis ranked No. 1 with her partner Val Chmerkovskiy for their fox trot performance.
Washington Post said Willis' performance was tagged as "incredible'' by the judges.
"You are in it to win it!" said Goodman of Willis' performance.
Washington Post noted that the popular dancing television show is aiming to regain its fame which slipped over the years with a special 10-year anniversary season.
