For whatever plausible reason, a BlackBerry Classic, Passport or Leap dropped in the toilet might stand a chance for warranty.

That seems to be the promise of BlackBerry's revamped Care Protection Plan. According to Bidness Etc, the plan offers extended warranty to select devices the moment they're activated.

Warranty stretches beyond the traditional one-year span, covering electrical, mechanical and even accidental issues such as the scenario above.

At this point, the plan is provided only among North American customers, and needless to say, it comes with a price.

MarketWatch cites Ron Louks' remarks, President of Devices and Emerging Solutions at BlackBerry, who said, "We know our BlackBerry users are productive mobile professionals who rely heavily on their smartphones to power them through the day."

"The BlackBerry Care Protection Plan gives our customers that extra confidence in knowing that repair costs are covered should they experience a mechanical or electrical failure or damage from a liquid spill or accidental drop," the rep added.

Perhaps the best part of the Care Protection Plan lies in the possibility of a phone replacement. BlackBerry is a name tied to efficient communication, productivity and security -- its protection plan, therefore, is easily understood.

The BlackBerry Leap, the latest of the three, gets the plan for $3.49 USD ($4.25 CAD) per month.

Leap sports a 5-inch HD display, 16 GB of storage, 8 MP camera and up to 25 hours of battery life.

The BlackBerry Classic, celebrated as the company's return to its fundamental roots, gets the plan for $3.99 USD ($4.75 CAD) a month.

Classic is an upgraded memory of the Bold 9900. It resurrects BlackBerry's iconic QWERTY keyboard, navigation keys and trackpad. It also offers 50% more battery life and a screen larger by 60%.

The BlackBerry Passport, most-known for its design statement, gets the plan for $4.49 USD ($5.25 CAD) a month.

Passport is a beast among the three, packing a 453 ppi display, 32 GB storage, 13 MP OIS camera and 30 hours of battery life.

While the devices' specs may not be the best in the market, BlackBerry is primarily targeted to the business user, and it's no surprise to hear that it's more of a "tool" than a "toy."

The device's Care Protection Plan is said to rely on the in-market availability of the phones, Tech News Today notes. It is also redeemable under certain terms and conditions set by BlackBerry, detailed below:

1. Each approved claim is subject to a deductible and plan limits. The number of claims available under the BlackBerry Care Protection Plan depends on the options chosen and the timing of the claim.

2. The BlackBerry Care Protection Plan is available to new BlackBerry Passport, Classic and Leap customers for the first 30 days after purchase. For a limited time, BlackBerry will also extend this plan to U.S. and Canadian customers who have purchased a BlackBerry Passport or Classic since November 23, 2014 and who sign up for the plan between March 16 and April 12, 2015.
