Boxing fans may not have to wait long to see a rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley.
Freddie Roach, Pacquiao's trainer, said that Pacquiao could face Bradley in a rematch next year.
Roach told the Manila Bulletin this week that fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the Pacquiao camp's top priority, followed by the rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez.
But the Hall of Fame trainer admitted that the Bradley rematch is more likely to happen since Mayweather has yet to express his desire to face Pacquiao, while Marquez previously said that the Pacquiao chapter of his career is already over.
Roach said that Pacquiao is aching to exact revenge against Bradley, who took the World Boxing Organization welterweight title from Pacquiao last year via a highly-controversial split decision victory.
"Personally, I want Marquez but I'm not sure if we can get him. He wants a lot of money. Bradley is also a possibility. He (Pacquiao) wants revenge," Roach said.
If a deal can be reached between both camps, the Pacquiao-Bradley rematch could be scheduled for April 12 in Las Vegas.
However, Marquez could be a huge stumbling block for the possible Pacquiao-Bradley rematch as Marquez's camp is also aggressively pursuing a rematch with the undefeated Bradley after Marquez sustained a stinging loss against him.
Bradley scored a close split-decision victory over Marquez in their showdown in October. Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions told Boxingscene that they are already negotiating for the rematch, saying that Marquez wants to get back at Bradley badly.
"We are in negotiations for a rematch between Marquez and Timothy Bradley. We have always pursued what Marquez wants because of his devotion, professionalism and loyalty. I try to look for the best opportunities, he wants revenge and that's the fight we're looking for," Beltran said.
Marquez's promoter also added that he already talked to Bob Arum about their plan and he is confident that Marquez and Bradley will face each other again either in March or July next year.
"We have made great progress in the negotiations. I talked to Bob Arum and we are trying to make that fight. The fight is not complicated to make. I have great optimism that it will be achieved, and it would happen in March or July," Beltran said.
