For quite some time, the grapevine has talked about the Microsoft Lumia 940, particularly how it differs from its predecessor. However, with Windows 10 still distant from the regular user, the arrival of the next Lumia flagship may only be set even further.

Now that doesn't mean it's being delayed for the sake of a teaser. For a fact, we know that Windows 10 aims to be that one unified system, and Microsoft sure wants its customers to keep their trust.

The Franchise Herald took note of Neil Broadley's remarks, Microsoft's director of phone marketing, who said in a dialogue, "We remain completely committed and focused on new flagship products."

"That said, certainly we believe the best time to bring those flagship devices to market is when we have our very latest flagship software experience available. We're focusing our flagship development for slightly later when Windows 10 is available," the rep added.

The latest information on the Lumia 940 comes from Fudzilla, which cites "a source familiar with the matter."

It is no news that fingerprint sensor security technology is rising. Microsoft is believed to venture away from this trend, and details sound very promising indeed.

As told by Fudzilla, Microsoft is assumed to be working on an iris scanner -- another form of biometric security that utilizes unique individual data. The truth, quite literally, is in the eyes of the beholder.

While details on the technology remain scarce, the outlet hints on one intriguing ability, "We were told that Microsoft's approach also relies on near-infrared imaging, so it should work in low light as well."

The Lumia 940 is also said to own a docking station, BREATHEcast noted. This allows the device to connect with various accessories, such as PCs.

Another interesting rumor over the Lumia 940's specs is its camera. According to the Franchise Herald, the smartphone is pegged to ship with a "20 MP or 30 MP" camera, together with three LEDs. Fudzilla says it's a 20 MP to 30 MP range.

Other purported specs of the handset include Snapdragon 810 / 805 processor, Corning Gorilla Glass 4, 3 GB of RAM, 1080p display, WLAN, NFC, USB 3.0 and Adreno 420 graphic support. It is believed to measure 137 x 71 x 8.9 mm. Expected weight is 149 g.

The PCAdvisor is convinced that the Lumia 940 will "likely have a similar price" as its predecessor, the Lumia 930.
