Kurt Cobain was known as the voice of his generation. He was a wildly popular rock star icon, looked up by millions, even after his death in 1994.
The documentary chronicling his life, called "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck" has just released its first ever trailer - a powerful clip that features Cobain and the montage of so much more than what the title makes us think.
Premiering at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, the documentary received rare reviews, with Entertainment Weekly saying it's the best film at the film fest this year, and Rolling Stone noting it to be the most intimate rock documentary ever released.
According to Cinema Blend, "Montage of Heck" is the first ever documentary to give us a look at the personal life of the rocker, with never-before-seen home videos, interviews with family members, and a powerful look at the man who killed himself at the peak of his career.
Although this is not the first ever coverage about Cobain, it is the first one that has been fully authorized by his surviving family members, including his widow, Courtney Love, which makes this the first groundbreaking insight into the life of the iconic rock hero.
The trailer, as noted by Rolling Stone, follows Cobain's life from the shy, precocious child that he was, growing up until he became the rebellious teen and ultimately, the rock star who wasn't prepared for the approaching tidal wave of fame.
The video teaser shows numerous interviews with Cobain's family members and bassist Krist Novoselic. While there were a lot of scenes depicting his life, among the most powerful ones are those that, according to Rolling Stone included his infant daughter, Frances Bean.
According to Time Magazine, a companion book will also be released prior to the documentary, which will include animation stills and photography from Cobain's personal archives. A previously unreleased 12-minute acoustic from Cobain is also promised to be part of the soundtrack to be released on HBO in May 4.
Pitchfork also noted that a press release promised the documentary to feature "dozens of Nirvana songs and performances as well as previously unheard Cobain originals." It will also include "no-holds-barred access to Kurt Cobain's archives, home to his never-before-seen home movies, recordings, artwork, photography, journals, demos, personal archives, family archives and songbooks."
"Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck" is directed by Brett Morgen, with his widow, Courtney Love and daughter Frances Bean being heavily involved in the production, the latter also serving as the executive producer of the film.
